Immunotherapy for Allergies in Corpus Christi

Feel like your allergies are going nuts lately? You’re not alone.

If you’re watching the news, you’ll notice that allergies are on the rise. Food allergies, for example, increased by 50% in children between 1997 and 2011.

While there are several theories as to why this is, you’re probably more interested in how to prevent them from interfering with your quality of life.

Immunotherapy is a technique to help prevent allergic responses by gradually getting your body used to allergens.

The first step is identifying your triggers through allergy testing. Then, through allergy shots or tablets, you slowly re-train your body to become used to allergens and control your allergic reaction. Over time, your symptoms will reduce in severity.

Allergy Shots

If you have severe allergies that can’t be controlled through medication or avoidance, we may recommend allergy shots. Each shot will have a small amount of your trigger. After getting the shot, you’ll stay in our office to monitor your reaction. In the beginning, you’ll need shots more frequently, but over the course of several months to a year, we’ll decrease the time between shots.

Some patients see improvement within a few months, and some patients can see symptoms go away altogether.

If you are preparing for allergy shots, avoid exercise before or after treatment and let us know if you’re on any medications.

Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)

If shots aren’t for you, we offer sublingual immunotherapy as a convenient and needle-free approach to managing allergies. Patients simply place specially formulated drops or tablets under their tongue daily to build immunity to allergens over time.

Benefits of Sublingual Immunotherapy:

These options provide targeted relief to specific allergies like ragweed, dust mites, and grass, and can be a convenient option for those on the go. The benefits include:
